Writing Good English Texts with Moderate Knowledge?

How DeepL helps you with translations….

We all know Google Translator. We all make fun of its translations on one occasion or another because they are sometimes just bad. Only in order to understand the meaning of a foreign-language text, it is enough.

But what if we want to write an English text, but are not too good in English? Is it also possible with Google Translator?

Probably this isn’t the best idea. But with a new translator named DeepL, that’s another thing. DeepL is from the creators of the Linguee site, where the translations are displayed in context, making it easier to choose better.

The name already suggests that this could be Deep Learning or machine learning, because the translator works with neural networks. Simply put, it tries to recreate the structure of the brain, which makes artificial learning and thus better translations possible.

If we look at it from a practical point of view, DeepL has not only outperformed its competitors’ products (Google, Microsoft and Facebook) in tests, but we can also see that the translations are simply better.

I checked with DeepL whether it is possible to write whole articles in German and then translate them into English. To do this, I have written a paragraph in German into the text field; by clicking on the automatic translations, which I didn’t quite like, I chose a better alternative and then copied the whole thing into my article. An example:

If you are a student, it might be worthwhile to use this path for your homework essay next time. ? (Or you rather try to improve your English skills directly.)

But DeepL does not only support translation of German and English. Currently the following languages are supported: German, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch and Polish.

Nice to know: To train the translator better and better, the company behind DeepL has built a supercomputer in Iceland that reaches more than 5,100,000,000,000,000 operations per second. In the ranking of today’s supercomputers they would reach the 23rd place.
